Blue Air does not assume responsibility for such trivial damage. Nevertheless, if your baggage undergoes substantial damage, such as broken wheels, handles, punctures, or splits, Blue Air will accept full responsibility.

Firstly, report the damage.

Do not exit the baggage reclaim area (baggage hall), and attempt to find the Baggage Service Office. It’s usually situated in the baggage hall adjacent to the baggage carousels. Here you can log a report for damage to your bag.

Please have your passport and boarding pass ready and bring your damaged bag. Complete the report and you will receive instructions on the next steps. Most likely, the airline will repair your bag at no cost. If your suitcase cannot be repaired, Blue Air will either provide a replacement or issue a refund for you to purchase a new bag.

After a getting a damage report at the airport, you may need to make a claim online.

If your hold baggage is damaged, compensation may be possible.

Blue Air is responsible for baggage damage, and you may receive compensation of up to €1300.

The amount of compensation will be based on the worth of your damaged bag. It’s intended to cover your costs of purchasing a new bag of equivalent value.

Remember to lodge your Blue Air compensation claim.

The airline must transfer the compensation directly to your bank account. You are not obligated to accept compensation in the form of Blue Air vouchers, air miles, or coupons. Please keep in mind that it’s not recommended to transport electronics, art, jewellery, etc., in your checked baggage, as Blue Air is not liable to compensate for the full value of such items, only to the limit specified by the Montreal Convention and its Conditions of Carriage.

If the damage is a result of some defect in the bag itself, compensation will not be applicable. Also, Blue Air is not responsible for minor damage such as scratches, small dents and other (usual) signs of use on your suitcase. Regrettably, but that’s the truth of air travel.

Reimbursement of Expenses

If your baggage is damaged, you can’t claim for reimbursement for your expenses.

However, if your checked baggage gets lost or delayed, and you are compelled to buy replacements for necessary items, you are eligible for reimbursement of your expenses, often referred to as delayed baggage compensation. You purchase the essentials, submit a claim with all the receipts, and Blue Air refunds you.

You get 21 days from the day your lost baggage is received to file a claim for reimbursement.

However, this is applicable solely when your baggage is misplaced or delayed.

Is Travel Insurance Necessary?

No, you don’t need insurance to claim compensation. Because Blue Air is responsible for your baggage and its safe delivery. This is due to the Montreal Convention. The Montreal Convention is a treaty that governs baggage transportation and applies to most international flights operated by Blue Air and other airlines worldwide.

Simultaneously, having insurance is always beneficial.

Having insurance can speed up the compensation process. Contact your travel insurance provider after reporting the damage to your bag. They may reimburse you for the market value or cost of your luggage. To file a claim, you’ll need the documents received at the Baggage Service Office.

Please be aware, that not all insurance policies cover damage to your baggage. It’s advisable to confirm this in advance to prevent unnecessary stress and unpleasant surprises later.

Travel Prepared

It’s always a good idea to have a backup plan.

It’s a good idea to pack a spare set of clothes and undergarments in your carry-on in case your suitcase or its contents get damaged. Avoid putting valuable items, cash, medication, documents, and credit cards in your checked baggage. If your bag gets severely damaged, the contents could be affected or lost.

You should bring a packable or foldable duffle bag. If your baggage gets damaged, you can transfer your belongings to this duffel bag. If you don’t need it for that, the packable duffle bag can come in handy if you run out of space for your baggage towards the end of your trip.
