Blue Air Denied Boarding Compensation

Blue Air overbooking compensation / Blue Air denied boarding compensation.

How much is flight overbooking compensation? Rules? How to get it?

What if your Blue Air flight is overbooked, and you are denied boarding? Unfortunately, flight overbooking and denied boarding are common in the aviation industry. Thankfully, in the EU, passengers are protected in the event of denied boarding. If you are denied boarding by Blue Air, you are entitled to receive care from the airline. If you are denied boarding involuntarily, you are also entitled to EU denied boarding compensation.

There are two ways you can claim this compensation.

1. Blue Air Overbooking Compensation: EU Denied Boarding Regulations

Have you been denied boarding by Blue Air?

What are your rights in the event of denied boarding? Can you get a new flight? What about Blue Air denied boarding compensation? When it comes to denied boarding, you are protected under the EU law. You are entitled to receive care from the airline, and, in some cases, to denied boarding compensation.

If you’re flying with Blue Air, and you are denied boarding due to overbooking — you might be entitled to flight overbooking compensation (EU denied boarding compensation) of up to €600.

This only applies to overbookings.

If you don’t have a visa, or your passport is about to expire, you will get denied boarding. But in these cases, you won’t be entitled to denied boarding compensation. Also you can’t get compensation if you voluntarily give up your seat.

By Europe and EU here on this page (and on this website in general) we mean all EU Member States, the United Kingdom (UK), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.

1.1 Voluntary Denied Boarding

What is voluntary denied boarding?

Yes, there are different types of denied boarding.

Your flight is overbooked (the airline has sold more tickets than there are seats). But unfortunately, everyone has come. Now there are not enough seats for everyone. So the airline has to find a solution. At first, it will look for volunteers who will be willing to give up their seats and travel later.

You could be asked to be a volunteer, too. You could be asked to give up your seat in exchange for a new flight and compensation in the form of vouchers or cash. If you are offered compensation like this and you accept it, it’s called voluntary boarding denial.

In this case, you aren’t entitled to denied boarding compensation from Blue Air.

You don’t have to agree to an offer like this.

1.2 Involuntary Denied Boarding

There are situations when passengers don’t have a choice.

There are not enough volunteers, and not enough seats. So the airline has to refuse boarding to some of its passengers without their consent. It’s called involuntary denied boarding.

If you were denied boarding involuntarily, you are entitled to compensation.

What happens in case of involuntary denied boarding?

  • The airline must provide you with a new flight or give you a full refund (you can choose either);
  • In addition to that, you are entitled to receive care from the airline*;
  • You are entitled to Blue Air overbooking compensation up to €600 per passenger.

* Blue Air must offer you free meals and drinks in a reasonable relation to the waiting time, two free phone calls, e-mails or faxes. If you have to wait overnight, Blue Air must provide you with free accommodation and free transfer from and to the airport.

1.3 Right to Care

All passengers travelling with Blue Air have a right to care.

If your flight is delayed, cancelled last minute or you’ve been denied boarding, you are entitled to receive care from the airline. When flying with EU airlines, you are protected on all of the flights. Including disruptions due to extraordinary circumstances.

What does it mean for you as a passenger?

Blue Air must offer you free meals and drinks in a reasonable relation to the waiting time, two free phone calls, e-mails or faxes. If your flight is only on the next day, Blue Air has to offer you a free hotel stay and transfer.

Agreeing to these free services doesn’t affect your chances of getting compensation.

3. How Much Can You Claim?

In the EU compensation amounts are fixed.

In most situations they range from €250 to €600.

Here is how you can calculate Blue Air denied boarding compensation yourself:

When your destination is within the EU/UK:

€250

If the distance of your flight is
up to 1,500 km

€400

If the distance of your flight is between 1,500 – 3,500 km

When your destination is outside the EU/UK:

€250

If the distance of your flight is
up to 1,500 km

€400

If the distance of your flight is between 1,500 – 3,500 km

€600

If the distance of your flight is more than 3,500 km

There’s one exception. When the flight distance is 3500+ kilometres and you reach your destination 3 to 4 hours later than planned, you are entitled only to 50% of the compensation amount (that means €300, not €600).

3.1 Blue Air Voucher Code, Discounts or Cash?

According to the law, compensations have to be paid in cash or by bank transfer.

If Blue Air offers you a voucher instead of compensation, don’t agree to it. Ask for a bank transfer instead. Because you are entitled to bank transfer.
