In the unfortunate event of lost baggage, you must report it right away.

This can be done at the Baggage Service Office, typically located near the baggage carousels.

Bring along your passport, boarding pass, and baggage tag. If you have it, providing a photograph of your bag can expedite the procedure. If not, a comprehensive description of your bag is essential.

Upon completion of your complaint, a Property Irregularity Report and a tracking number will be handed to you. Please keep this document safe. It will be needed to track your bag online. It may take up to 24 hours or more to locate your mishandled baggage. Once found, your bag will be delivered to your hotel or residential address.

Tracking Your Lost Baggage

Utilise the personal tracking number on the Property Irregularity Report (given to you at the airport) to track your bag’s whereabouts online via Blue Air’s online baggage tracing system.

Once your bag has been located by Blue Air staff, they will get in touch with you.

Baggage Delayed For 5+ Days

If your delayed baggage is still not found after five days, contact Blue Air and give them a detailed description of your item and its contents. Fill out the contents list on Blue Air’s baggage status page, which you can access five days after reporting the delay.

Reimbursement of Expenses

If your baggage gets lost and you need essential items like toiletries, underwear, and clothes, you might be eligible for reimbursement. This is called delayed baggage compensation. Please note that you may not receive immediate payment.

Be aware that this compensation only covers essential items such as toiletries, underwear, and necessary clothing – items you cannot do without.

Do remember to keep all of your receipts as they will be required when filing a claim for additional expenses. It’s crucial to remember that the deadline for filing the claim and receiving reimbursement is within 21 days of receiving your lost baggage, so make sure not to miss this deadline.

Lost Baggage Compensation

If Blue Air cannot find your baggage within 21 days, you might be eligible to receive up to €1300 as compensation for your lost belongings. To claim this compensation, you must provide Blue Air with a detailed list of the items that were in your baggage. It’s a good idea to have this list prepared in advance to ensure nothing is overlooked.

Your compensation will be directly transferred to your bank account by Blue Air. No need to accept any vouchers – after all, a new suitcase can’t be purchased with a voucher, right?

It’s not recommended to pack high-value items. Storing expensive items such as electronics, works of art, or jewellery in your checked baggage is not recommended by Montreal Convention and Blue Air’s Conditions of Carriage. The airline is unable to provide full compensation for the entire value of such expensive items.

In addition to lost baggage compensation, you can claim reimbursement for expenses.

Is Travel Insurance Necessary?

Is travel insurance a prerequisite to claim Blue Air lost baggage compensation?

No, travel insurance is not mandatory to claim baggage loss compensation from an airline. However, possessing a travel insurance policy may offer extra security and cover any costs arising due to your baggage being lost, such as buying replacement items or clothing.

Having a solid travel insurance policy can help alleviate stress during your journey, particularly in unforeseen circumstances. Your insurance provider will handle most of the follow-up for you. Travel insurance is usually affordable and may even be included as a benefit of your debit or credit card.

If the airline is responsible for lost or delayed baggage, you may be eligible for compensation for essential purchases. You can seek reimbursement from either the airline or your insurance provider. Remember to keep all receipts, as they are crucial for claims. Insurance claims are often processed faster than airline claims.

Do note, however, that not all insurance policies offer coverage for delayed or lost baggage.

It’s always best to check what is covered by your travel insurance.
