Blue Air Missed Connection Compensation

Blue Air missed connection compensation.

What to do if you miss your connecting flight? Can you claim flight compensation?

If you experience a missed connection with Blue Air, you may be eligible for compensation. The amount of compensation depends on the distance of your journey. It’s important to note that factors like nationality, ticket cost, and insurance coverage don’t affect your eligibility. Blue Air is obliged to follow EU regulations and must provide the due compensation.

You can choose to independently file a compensation claim or enlist professional help.

1. Connecting Flights With Blue Air

A connecting flight is when you travel using multiple flights, with at least one stopover at an intermediary airport, to reach your final destination. Connecting flights are often chosen when direct flights are not available or are more expensive. There are two types of connecting flights: those protected by the airline and self-transfer flights.

What about Blue Air connecting flight? Are they protected by the airline?

Even as a budget airline, Blue Air offers protected connecting flights. This service offers coverage in the event of missed connections due to any delays or cancellations of your flight segments.

However, connecting flights with Blue Air are different from those of traditional airlines. While Blue Air does provide coverage for any missed connections, it does not automatically transfer your checked-in baggage to your final destination. You will also need to check in for each segment of your flight.

If you miss a connecting flight, Blue Air will assist and arrange another flight without any extra charges.

1.1 Self-Transfer Flight vs Connecting Flight With Blue Air

When you book your journey with Blue Air, you have two options: a connecting flight or a self-transfer, where you book separate flight legs. These flight legs can be operated by Blue Air alone or a combination of airlines such as Blue Air + Ryanair, Blue Air + Wizz Air, Blue Air + Lufthansa, etc.

A connecting flight refers to booking your entire journey, including multiple flights, under a single booking reference number. In the “Manage My Booking” section, you can see all the flights associated with your booking reference number.

On the other hand, a self-transfer flight with Blue Air consists of multiple flights, each with its own unique booking reference number. To view the entire journey, you will need to log into the “Manage My Booking” section multiple times, using the specific booking reference number for each flight leg.

It’s crucial to understand that self-transfers are not protected by airline policies, unlike airline-protected connecting flights.

1.2 Missing a Blue Air Connecting Flight

Do you have a Blue Air connecting flight (protected transfer)?

If your Blue Air flight is delayed or cancelled last-minute, and you’re worried about missing a connecting flight, Blue Air will rebook you on another flight at no extra cost. You also have a right to care while you wait for your new flight. In certain situations, you are entitled to Blue Air missed connection compensation. More on that below.

However, if you have a self-transfer flight with separately booked flights (even if all of these flights are with Blue Air), the responsibility for the connection or transfer is on you. If you miss a connection, you will have to organise and cover the costs of a new flight, and hotel booking, and make new travel arrangements by yourself. However, you might qualify for compensation in case of flight delay or cancellation for the disrupted flight.

2. EU Missed Flight Connection Compensation

If you miss your connecting flight with Blue Air, you might be eligible for Blue Air missed connection compensation.

Blue Air must adhere to certain EU regulations and provide compensation if you arrive at your final destination 3+ hours late, and it was due to the airline’s fault.

2.1 Missed Connecting Flight Due to Delay: Compensation

If you arrive at your destination 3 or more hours later due to the airline’s fault, you might be eligible for compensation as per Regulation (EC) No 261/2004.

These laws apply to all Blue Air flights within, to, and from Europe, as Blue Air is a European airline. Note that there is no specific “Blue Air missed connection compensation” category, as it falls under the same category as Blue Air flight delay compensation.

In summary, you can claim this compensation if:

  • It is Blue Air’s fault;
  • Your arrival at the final destination is delayed by 3+ hours compared to the original schedule;
  • The flight is to/from Europe.

The same principles apply to Blue Air connecting flights. It’s crucial to understand that your final destination is the endpoint of your journey, not any of the layover airports.

Consider this example: If you have a connecting flight from Bucharest to New York with a layover in Warsaw, your final destination is New York. Warsaw is simply a layover airport. If you arrive in New York more than 3 hours late due to the airline’s fault, you are eligible for missed connection compensation for the entire “Bucharest – New York” journey.

Remember to file a compensation claim!

By Europe and EU here on this page (and on this website in general) we mean all EU Member States, the United Kingdom (UK), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.

2.2 Missing a Connecting Flight Due to Cancellation

If you experience a last-minute flight cancellation causing you to miss your subsequent Blue Air flight, resulting in a delay of 3 hours or more upon arrival at your final destination, you might be eligible for flight compensation from Blue Air.

The compensation amount, which can be up to €600, is determined based on the distance of your flight. This applies if the airline is at fault. This doesn’t apply to flights cancelled or delayed due to bad weather or other extraordinary circumstances.

In summary, you have the opportunity to receive compensation if:

  • Your previous flight is cancelled (or delayed) due to the fault of the airline;
  • You reach your destination 3+ hours late;
  • The flight is to/from Europe.

2.3 What About Self-Transfer Flights With Blue Air?

If you have made separate flight bookings for your journey (known as self-transfer), the mentioned regulations do not apply. In such cases, if one of your flights is cancelled or delayed, you will not be eligible for compensation for the other flight. Even if all of your flight legs are with the same airline.

For example, if you have booked a flight with Blue Air and another with Wizz Air, and Blue Air cancels their flight, you may be eligible for compensation for the cancelled Blue Air flight. However, please be aware that Blue Air is not responsible for your Wizz Air flight and will not provide any assistance if you miss it.

It’s important to keep this in mind while making separate flight bookings.

3. Extraordinary Circumstances

These are instances that fall outside the influence of Blue Air.

In situations where exceptional circumstances arise, like severe weather or global health crises, the airline is not liable, and compensation is not provided, as these events are beyond the airline’s control.

To prevent misinformation provided by the airline, it is recommended to cross-check any information from the airline and think about engaging the services of a flight compensation company if needed. Issues related to the technical functioning of the aircraft are usually the responsibility of the airline and are not recognised as exceptional circumstances.

Situations that are not extraordinary circumstances:

4. Right to Care

You have a right to care, regardless of the cause of delay or cancellation.

If there are flight disruptions with Blue Air, you are protected by EU Regulation 261/2004. Blue Air must provide alternative flights and support if your wait time exceeds three hours. This includes free meals, drinks, phone calls, and even hotel stays for overnight delays.

  • After 3 hours of waiting, Blue Air must offer you complimentary meals and drinks in proportion to your waiting time, along with two free phone calls, emails or faxes.
  • In the event of a delay that extends overnight, Blue Air is required to provide free hotel accommodation (+ free airport transfer).

You have a right to care even in extraordinary circumstances.

5. How to Claim Blue Air Flight Compensation?

How to claim Blue Air missed connection compensation?

There exist two methods to claim EU flight compensation.

The first way is to directly reach out to Blue Air. You can navigate to their website and contact their customer support center to raise a claim for your flight. It’s crucial to remember that this route can be demanding on your time, and you may have to negotiate with Blue Air to secure the compensation you are entitled to. Furnishing proof that illustrates the extent of your delay in reaching your final destination can be beneficial.

The second option is simpler: get legal assistance.

By opting for this method, you’ll benefit from the expertise of legal professionals who will manage every aspect of your claim. Our partners provide such services – find more details below.

5.1 How Long Does It Take To Receive Compensation?

Getting compensation from a carrier can take a few months, and it could be even longer if it involves a national enforcement body or court. The process can be sped up if the airline promptly acknowledges and agrees, but disputes or complex cases may lead to a longer legal procedure.

Every case is distinct in terms of timing.

When your destination is within the EU/UK:

If the distance of your flight is
up to 1,500 km

€400

If the distance of your flight is between 1,500 – 3,500 km

6.1 Blue Air Voucher Refund or Cash?

However, you are entitled to opt for monetary compensation. European law dictates that carriers must provide refunds and compensation in the form of cash or bank transfers, not vouchers or coupons, thereby safeguarding your rights.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

My flight was only €20. Can I get compensation if my flight was very cheap?

It doesn’t matter how much your ticket cost.

If your flight is eligible to compensation, you can get it. The price of your ticket doesn’t affect your chances of getting compensation. Nor does it affect the compensation amount.

Remember — you are paid for the inconvenience.

I don’t have travel insurance. Can I still claim compensation?

Yes, of course.

You can get compensation even if you don’t have insurance. As long as you arrive 3+ hours later than scheduled, and the disruption is due to the airline’s fault.

Can my kid get compensation from Blue Air?

Yes.

The age of the passenger doesn’t matter. Kids and babies can get compensation, too. If a parent is entitled to compensation, the child will be too.

Even infants with special infant ticket can get compensation.

Can I claim compensation for a friend, relative, family member?

Yes, you can.

You can claim compensation for another person. Even if you weren’t on that flight yourself. Just keep in mind that they need to provide a passport copy and boarding pass. Also they need to sign one form, and, if necessary, a couple more documents.

How far back can I claim flight compensation?

It depends on the laws of the country.

In many European countries you can claim compensation even for old flights. If your flight was 2-3 years ago, you might still be able to make a claim, and, if you are entitled to compensation, you might get it.

However, for the best results, we would recommend you to make a claim as soon as you return from your trip.

What to do if Blue Air is denying my claim?

Blue Air is refusing to pay compensation even though you are entitled to it.

How you can proceed? One of the options is to hand over your case to a flight compensation company. They will take over and pursue compensation on your behalf.

Alternatively, you may contact the respective national enforcement body and ask them to help solve your case. There are national enforcement bodies in all the EU Member states.

Blue Air Delayed Flight > Missed Connection

If I miss my Blue Air connecting flight, what will happen to my checked bag?

You may already know that if you have a protected Blue Air connecting flight, you will be booked on a new flight if you miss your connection.

While you will be rebooked on a new flight, it is important to note that, unlike traditional airlines (such as KLM, Lufthansa, Turkish Airlines, etc.), Blue Air does not transfer checked baggage for you. This means that after each flight, you will need to collect and recheck your bag.

If it’s a self transfer, all you can ask for is a full refund for cancellation.

You can’t get a new flight for free if it’s a self transfer.
